About Me

My
favorite medium, oil pastel, which I mainly use, has the reputation of being
very messy and quite unwieldy. The brand
that gives me the blended effect that I strive for in my art is Mungyo soft oil
pastels. What I want to show in my art is the idea of gender expression. I
chose this theme because it was prevalent in my formative years and something I
felt a lot of people can relate to. When I was younger, I got teased for the
way I dressed. Everyone around me saw it as too boyish and some even found that
to be an issue. People always ridiculed me for the way I presented myself, and
whenever they did this I felt like there was something truly wrong with me. I
am at the point where people’s unwarranted comments and insult about my
appearance do not bother me. I want to show that boys can wear feminine clothes
and girl can wear masculine clothes without being judged for who they truly
want to be. People should be able to express who they want to be and should not
care what people think. Individuality is beautiful, and people should embrace
it. People should not feel the need to assimilate to what other people want
them to be.
*After graduation I plan on going to Clayton State for 2 years and transferring to Georgia State to get a B.F.A. I want to get a Bachelors in Fine Arts with a concentration in drawing.
